I keep wanting to set aside a big chunk of time to blog something meaningful, but I realize that short bite sized blogs are better than no blogs at all! It's been my goal this year to write more, and so I plan to blog at least twice a month- one blog for every second week of the month and one for the last day of each month. So for those who know me, please keep me accountable! haha:)
So in short, I just wanted to write about something that has really been on my heart lately! And that is treating our relationship with God like a relationship we would have with our significant other! I know it sounds kind of strange, but taking this perspective has really blown my mind!
So let's see, for me...what would a relationship with my significant other look like? hmmmmm
1) I would always make an effort to see him as often as possible, since it'll just be so amazing and lifting to be in his presence!
2) I would enjoy just being with him even in doing ordinary mundane things
3) I would try to keep things fresh and exciting so things don't get too boring and so the fire doesn't fizzle HAHA
4) I would continually remind him of how much I love and value him
5) A day without seeing/ spending time with him would be painful
6) I would open up my heart to him and want to get to know him as well!
what does a relationship with your significant other look like?:)
Alright, now how can we take that and bring it into our relationship with God?
Well, what I've been working on, is just inviting God's presence to be with me wherever I am (since it is more amazing and uplifting than any one else's!)- whether it is on the way to class, in class, at lunch, in my dorm or while I'm playing guitar, exercising, or doing homework- I want to welcome His presence! I mean, He is everywhere anyway, but sometimes I just fail to acknowledge Him. So that is one thing I want to continue working on!
Also, I want to know His heart, His desires, His will!- basically everything about Him!!- which encourages me to dive into His word and to not see reading the Bible as a chore, but an awesome opportunity to get to know more about the love of my life!
But sometimes I find that just reading the word can get boring sometimes. My friend Ali said that it is important to get to know about God through the word, but just because you know about someone doesn't make you close. That is why it's just as important to spend time with God, so she suggested to try and spice things up a little! In a regular relationship people may try to experience fun and new things together to keep things exciting! So why not do the same with with God, our ULTIMATE love?
- what are some new and different ways you can spend time with God?
For me, this week I will try to go on a walk with Him and spend time with Him in prayer while enjoying the amazing scenery! I'll also find time to sit and draw while listening to worship music!
These are the most exciting things, but hey, it's a start!
Well good luck to everyone in their walk with God this week!
*And remember every relationship will have its ups and downs, but as long as you keep communicating it''ll you can survive anything!:)
